"Mahatma Kabir Saheb [great soul Master Kabir] was/is a being who was liberated while still in the body. It seems that many have heard of this Mahatma, yet his exact birthplace remains more or less unknown. There is even a legend that says that he did not take birth in any womb. He was raised from infancy by a Muslim fisherman in Varanasi. If one examines the supernatural work of Kabir Saheb during his actual life, the [aforementioned] legend is not impossible to believe. It has been said that upon the passing of Kabir Saheb's mortal life, his Hindu and Muslim disciples began quarreling over his body. Amongst the disciples, the Hindus wanted to cremate the body of their guru and the Muslims wished to bury him. This conflict led to physical fighting, at which time Kabir Saheb bodily got up [from the bier] and stood in the midst of the disciples and, pacifying them, said, "Why are you quarreling over this body of skin and bones? What will you gain by this? All good that is to happen from this [the passing] has already happened. Do not fight any more. I will lie down with this sheet and cover myself. Whatever you find under here afterwards - distribute that amongst yourselves." Later, the disciples lifted the cover and saw that there were only some jasmine flowers on the cloth, and there was no body." - From the Foreword by Publisher Sri Panchanon Bhattacharya

Lahiri Mahasay's Ineffable Commentaries

Once I discovered that Lahiri's commentaries on Kabir's expressions had been recorded over the years by his kriya yoga disciples, I knew that I had to get a copy! Lahiri's wisdom is matchless and brings alive in modern day parlance Kabir's wisdom.

A Winning Combination, Spirituallly Speaking

Learning that Lahiri identified strongly with Kabir, both of them something of a mystery in differing ways, has been one of the major delights of my spiritual ramblings and discoveries. There is so simple and arresting an authority in Kabir's poetry, even as it has made its way into English. From other Kabir scholars, we find there is something of a Shakespeare mystery in that Kabir's words moving around through various poets and translations are something of an ensemble product. Still, that simple arresting authority survives all this handling. Wonderful.

exceptional humans

I really enjoyed this book and so did my two boys who are both football fans and players. There wasn't much my kids could learn from it though, like hard work or that sticking with something pays off in the end...there is little of that in these stories.

I was so surprised that everyone of these players was exceptional as a young child. In some ways this could make the book a little predictable but what it tells me when read from cover to cover is that not one of these players was an underdog or a "late-bloomer." Everyone could see their in-born-talent with the exception of one goal-keeper at the age of nine. In fact when asked by parents, was your child born with this exceptional talent or did they learn to work hard...every parent states...it was in-born....and yes then they learned to work hard but first they had the amazing talent above everyone else.

This is a surprize to me because I had believed some of the hype-and false stories I had read about some of these players like Drogba being a late bloomer and not being a stand-out until he was in his late teens. Well, it is just not true if these stories are true. These players all of them are genetically exceptional and yes then as they got older they also combined that with hard work and had good families to guide them.

So given these stories I would say the hype about 10,000 hours of training (working harder than everyone else) should be qualified as this: If you have a 1 in million child who you coach or parent, who everyone (not just you or some coach you pay) around you thinks is the most amazing kid they have ever seen, have them get their 10,000 hours in, and teach them to work hard, and if they are lucky they may be one of these players.

These are cinderella stories and not really about working hard and over-coming those who doubt your talent (a myth in soccer). These players it seems were all touched with fairy dust.

Very, very superficial

These positive reviews puzzle me. I bought the book because of them and having read it I really disagree. Each athlete is given the same handful of questions and thus the answers are very predictable and similar. "I had a lot of talent and you have to work hard", over and over again. There is absolutely no dept here and nothing to learn. It is like a quick talk by the pitch, like an interview for television. Probably the author has emailed the questions and pasted the answers. You also get a superficial "life story" of each player. And clearly there has been no editing of the book, it is full of spelling mistakes and clumsy language. Avoid, forget.

Nothing but the best! This author might be onto something great.

The author takes you behind the scenes, up-close and personal, on the journey of experience that some of the world's greatest soccer players had to endure.

Most of the perspectives will come directly from family and coaches. But you'll also be pleasantly surprised to hear from the athlete. He does this well with an interview question and answer format, which follows with some pertinent history of the athlete.

After reading a couple of the chapters, you'll soon sense that this book is destined for table tops across the globe. There is so much good information packed inside that you will want to share it with everyone around you.

This book is divided into short and concise chapters, solely concentrating on one athlete at a time. This makes the reading convenient for anyone with a life full of interruptions.

If you too have an inquisitive mind, then you'll appreciate the hard work he's done in getting his 500 plus questions answered. This is probably a feat in itself.

What I especially like, is the approach the author uses... going to the top and getting first-hand information on those who watched the athlete grow from an unknown and transforming into today's superstar. I recommend this book to anyone, and of all ages or background, who wishes to gain an inside perspective in becoming the best, or to provide encouraging support to those who are passionate about their field.

A Bit too Harsh?

My daughter used this book to practice for the SHSAT test but as I could recall, she had great difficulty in working her way through the problems. I think that if you can get through these set of questions, you are more than well prepared for taking the math section of the exam. The answer key doesn't help that much, so I had to help her figure out what she did wrong while answering questions. I also found a few mistakes in some questions, so maybe a revision would be good? Overall, this book was difficult, but after working her way through, my daughter realized that it isn't as bad as she thought.

Picked this up for my niece. Similar to the first book, the questions seem harder than on the released practice tests. My niece said that she thinks there were also some mistakes in the answer key in this second version as well. Again the explanations were not very detailed so she had some difficulty understanding her mistakes on a few problems. Overall she said she liked the book and felt that it would help her.

It is a good book, with a variety of problems. It consists of several full length tests (math part). At the back of the book, there are answers with detailed explanations. Overall, it is a very helpful book for SHSAT prep. Also, there is a first volume that i would also recommend buying.

Jenny's first day at the Albrecht Stables continues being both sexually demanding and degrading for her. Yet some sparks start to jump back and forward between her and Mark.
Jenny is used but not by whom she hoped. This adds a whole new and interesting layer to the suspense already created.
This well written story is fascinating and aroussing and so well described the reader can sit back and close the eyes and be there. I'm looking forward to part four.

Yefei Lu is a portfolio manager at Shareholder Value Management AG, a value-investment company based in Frankfurt, Germany. Previously, he worked for a single-family investment office in Munich and for McKinsey & Company in Berlin. He holds an MBA from the London Business School and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Stanford University.

Fantastic guide for evaluating investments

As an individual investor, I found this book to be a fantastic guide for assessing the quality and valuation of a business. I found the author's in-depth coverage of investment metrics especially useful. Like many investors, I was familiar with common metrics like P/E and how it relates to valuations. This book covers metrics and terms that I was less familiar with, including ROTCE, EV/EBIT and margin of safety.

For each of the 20 investments, the author provides the pieces of information that Buffet would have had at the time of his investment, including financial statements, market/industry context and management team background. The chapters covering Geico, Amex, General Re and Coke were especially interesting to read. The provided information, along with the author's analysis of the valuation metrics makes it clear to imagine how Buffet would have evaluated each of the investments.

Overall, this is a great investing guide to add to one's collection.

A simple idea: take twenty of Warren Buffett’s past investments and expose them to deep, extensive analysis. Apart from being a fascinating retrospective, it may also give a few inklings about what makes Buffett tick and how the “Sage of Omaha” manages to hit gold with so many investment decisions.

This is no rose-tinted spectacle hagiography but a fairly neutral, informative and detailed examination, which has had access to partnership letters, company documents and lots of other original source documents. Lessons learned, mistakes possibly made and strategic advantages taken are all examined, leading to an interesting book that provides a snapshot of corporate America as well as a close focus on perhaps the world’s best-known investor. The author, a portfolio manager, selected twenty investments that he felt Buffett made over time that had the greatest material impact on his success, based on a number of factors, to provide a balanced, informative view of Buffett’s investments and he contrasts matters by taking the perspective of an investment analyst who would have studied the same businesses at the same time. Maybe this is going to be the next-best thing to sitting down with the great man himself and asking him to spill the beans…

The price of the book might put it out of reach for a casual reader, yet for those who are serious about investing or who just have an interest in corporate history and business overall, this is a very engaging read that is hard to put down. Sure, for some readers, the incredibly deep financial information may be a little bit overwhelming, yet that can be skipped with relative ease if necessary. The reader was not, in any case, left wanting!

This was certainly a pleasurable, informative way to spend a few evenings curled up with a book! Definitely a worthy consideration.
