Paul McGee delivers a book that doesn't come around very often. As I started to read, I couldn't put it down. His writing style is wonderful, and his story telling is impactful.

Most self-help books primarily focus upon one area of concern. Paul helps inspire you to rise to whatever challenge life hands you. He does this by giving you insight into understanding yourself and others. When it comes to planning and having action in your life, Paul will help challenge your thought process. The Ditch Doris Day section was clever in discussing how you can take ownership of your future.

Fantastic book for anyone who photographs women

This book is fantastic! Susan is touching on so many things that will take my beauty and boudoir business to a whole new level. She is putting to words things that I have been thinking and feeling for years...but I didn't realize I wasn't alone! I am only two chapters in and I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to photograph women and have more of an impact than just pretty pictures.

I'll come back and update when I finish the book...but there is a LOT of great info...so it might be a while! :-)

This book was truly written from the heart by the author who is very passionate about capturing women's images and stories. Not only does the author give valuable tips and information for someone who wants to do Boudior photography, but it is written in a way that truly shows her love of empowering women and making them feel cherished. Susan Eckert's passion and professionalism is unwavering and it is apparent throught the book. Susan truly cares about her clients, and the stories of their lives and showcases them in this book. It really stands apart from any other book about Boudior and is a must read if you are interested in doing a Boudior shoot or are a Boudior photographer or if you are looking for a great read about women's stories.

I was fortunate enough to have read this book in its early draft and was immediately enchanted.

This GORGEOUS book is a work of art in itself. It amply combines the technical, artistic and psychological aspects of boudoir to create meaningful work for our clients. Susan masters all of these components so well, through her years as an Organizational Psychologist and an accomplished photographer. With every page turn, you will find beautiful imagery and contextual advice, optimizing the impact of what we, as boudoir photographers, can do.

I love this book, and it is a very treasured work on the shelf in my studio that I am proud for all to see.

If Ken Burns’s upcoming documentary film on America’s National Parks is as good as the book laying open before me, he has another huge winner. Of course the book, entitled The National Parks: America’s Best Idea, is intended as a companion to the film, but as I see it--literally--the book permits the eye and mind to linger over the truly breathtaking pictures in a more meditative way that film does not allow. The result is almost elegiac, producing the same kind of goose bumps that Burns created in his early work on the Brooklyn Bridge and the Civil War.

Burns has been chronicling the American experience for over thirty years, and I think it’s fair to say that no one has influenced more living Americans to think about our history as a people and a nation. His dominant themes have been space and race, his persistent question deceptively simple: who are we? I think The National Parks is his masterpiece on the space theme. And the message that kept whispering to me in these pages was that whoever we are has been decisively shaped by the sheer physicality of the continent we inhabit.

It never occurred to me before, but Americans invented the idea institutionalized in our National Parks. Namely, as Burns puts it in the introduction, “for the first time in human history, land--great sections of our natural landscape--was set aside, not for kings or noblemen or the very rich, but for everyone, for all time.” As Wallace Stegner once observed, and the book’s subtitle echoes, this may have been “America’s best idea.” Burns links the idea to Jefferson’s magic words in the Declaration of Independence (i.e. “We hold these truths...”), our quasi-sacred text on human freedom, which takes on an almost spiritual resonance amidst the vistas of Yosemite or Yellowstone.

Dayton Duncan, Burns's longtime colleague, has provided most of the text, which is designed to cast a spell that matches the wonder of the stunning illustrations. The book looks luxurious and feels expensive, but this visit to the National Parks is a great deal.--Joseph J. Ellis

This book is amazing! I've never seen the national parks film by Ken Burns, but after getting this book, I can't wait to! It is wonderfully done with breathtaking photos, interesting interviews, and so much history! My children and I are studying the National Parks this year for school, and I couldn't have made a better investment for a learning resource!

Anyone with a passion for the outdoors, our national parks, or photography will value this superb historical and photographic record of our national parks system. For a documentary, the book reads easily. I found myself wanting to continue reading on and on. I found the book more interesting than the TV series that aired shortly after its release. The photographs range from wonderful old sepias from the early days of photography to modern color images of today. I understand why the parks are not discussed in an orderly fashion, one park at a time - the book covers the development of the park system rather than one park at a time as a travel book might. The perspectives and details of the individuals who influenced the national park system emphasizes how individual people shape our society and make things happen through the influence of relationships. While it would be easier to negotiate the book if it were organized park by park, the impact of the book would be lost. Kudos to Dayton Duncan and Ken Burns. This book is a keeper.

Douglas A. Irwin, a professor of business at the University of Chicago, helps add depth to the discussion with this sweeping study of the business of trade between nations. He begins with Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations and carries through to some of history's greatest thinkers on the topic of free trade. He shows "how free trade came to occupy ... a commanding position in economics and how free trade has maintained its intellectual strength ... over the past two centuries." It is a timely and needed book.

Few economic debates have raised more emotion over the last two centuries than that between the champions of free trade and the advocates of protectionism. Irwin chronicles this controversy in great detail from the demise of mercantilism in the 17th century and the beginnings of free-trade ideology with Adam Smith to the present. As Free Trade was an essentially British invention, most of the book's cast of characters are of that nationality, Irwin also traces the thinking of John Maynard Keynes, who, after being an ardent advocate of free trade, went through a reversal to become a supporter of protectionism. "Free trade, combined with great mobility of wage rates, is a tenable intellectual position," he wrote, but "it presents a problem of justice so long as many types of money [wages] income are protected by contract and cannot be made mobile." The debate is still very much alive today?from EEC to NAFTA, to the campaign rhetoric in this year's presidential primaries. Although Irwin takes an historical approach, he clearly a supporter of free trade. Irwin is a professor of Business Economics at the and is affiliated with the American Enterprise Institute, both of which are bastions of supply-side theory, which is free trade in its purest form. The book will be most readable for those with more than a passing knowledge of economics.

Berlin's essays are always a pleasure to read, insightful and unpredictable, and this collection is no exception. Some of these essays have appeared in other collections, and I enjoyed them the second time around too. The history of ideas is a richly rewarding field of intellectual endeavor, but it unfortunately doesn't attract many who can write as well they think they can think. Berlin is one of the best. In contrast, Peter Watson's recent thick volume Ideas: A History of Thought and Invention, from Fire to Freud]] seems shallow and hurried.

Popular Animal Phys book well worth the price

I bought this edition in looseleaf form for my upper level Animal Phys course. The prof uses the figures straight from the book, so if I don't understand the diagram in class, I can always go back to the text. I use the book as a pre-class read and post-class study guide (along with class notes). The text is easy to read and the diagrams are colorful with clear explanations. I like the looseleaf edition because I can put the chapters I next for each exam into a binder along with my notes, then add / delete chapters & notes as I move forward in the course. In other words, the looseleaf edition saves my aching back from yet another heavy book! A wholly-digital ebook would be even better for me, but I can pass this text along to a relative who will be taking this course in the next year.
