About the Author
Stephen Aryan was born in 1977 and was raised by the sea in northeast England. After graduating from Loughborough University, he started working in marketing, and for some reason he hasn't stopped. A keen podcaster, lapsed gamer and budding archer, when not extolling the virtues of Babylon 5, he can be found drinking real ale and reading comics.
He lives in a village in Yorkshire with his partner and two cats.

Okay book

Seriously. It was just okay. I can't understand why so many readers are giving this book five stars but, whatever. If it's the best book YOU have ever read, then good on you. For me, there were too many characters left undeveloped, nothing new with the plot or battles, and an overall sense of waiting for something to happen. And for a book that's titled battle mage, the whole magic thing seemed very weak and secondary to the book. All of that aside, it was a good enough book to read over a weekend....but I certainly don't think it deserves five stars.

A subtle an complexly woven tale

Battlemage is a well written fantasy with a familiar but distinct set of magical systems. Vargus was the standout character for me, as I always wanted to stay with his point of view. Balfruss, despite getting top billing, seemed a little under-developed, and I hope to learn more about him in later books.

My main criticism relates to the lack of insight into the thoughts of many of the characters. I would have liked to get to know some of Vargus' brothers much better. Instead I had to be satisfied with their few words and actions. They were still more engaging than the characters in 90% of modern fiction.

One final note. The spy ring sub-plot seemed a little lack-luster. There were no true threats, no highs and lows. Even the climax at the church was quickly glossed over, as if the author wasn't that interested.

Overall, this first novel by Aryan is of surprisingly high quality. I'll certainly be on the lookout for future titles.

The book is not engaging in any way. Except for the first chapter the story develops very slowly and without enough elements to keep you interested. The author keeps revealing surprises as the plot moves along but the lack of a main story and likable characters makes those efforts fruitless.

This is the best book I have seen to learn to tie knots. Excellent brief explanations with clear easy to follow illustrations. It even has the knots grouped in logical applications. I purchased this for my 8 year old grandson, it's perfect for him and anyone who wants to learn knots.

This book covers so much more than just how to tie a few knots. It also explains good uses for the knots as well as the history of the knot. The book is also very helpful by telling you if they are easy to untie, permanent, or safe for heavy loads. Just what I needed to learn what knot to use for what I was doing. Worth every penny.

Very comprehensive, learned and memorized a lot of the knots from this book. All of the important ones seem to be here. I'm knot an expert but I haven't heard of a knot yet that I haven't found in this book. I have the Kindle version by the way and it is very well formated for my paperwhite.

You know you are reading a good book, when halfway through; you call up your friends and tell them they HAVE to buy the book. That is what happened to me with this book!!! There were parts of it where I was laughing so hard I was almost in tears, and other parts that were so informational, that I actually learned a thing or two!

The characters in this book were written to where they all had completely different personalities. Sami's character shows the sense of innocence that a lot of women have these days but also has her strength that shows through at times. Crash and AJ seem like the typical football player bad-asses, but during the course of the book, you get to learn that there is more to them than meets the eye.

One thing that I completely enjoyed about this book was the fact that you were learning throughout the book. While the characters were going through the BDSM Boot Camp, you were as well. Cassidy didn't skip over details that are important such as the safety during certain scenes. There were also many different techniques that were
explained and demonstrated in this book.

The only thing that I did not like about this book was the "instant love" between Sami, AJ and Crash. Even though they had known each other for over a week, it still seemed as though it was all tied up too nicely at the end. I would have figured there would have been more arguments about the relationship than there were. They all seemed to take it rather in stride.

This is one book that I would recommend to anyone who is interested in the BDSM world. You are able to learn certain things about the lifestyle that might shock you, in a good way.

Love some football players

I won this book at RT along with the others in the series. I admit, I jumped right to this one because it had a football field in the background. I really enjoyed this book. It is the most informative BDSM book I've ever read and think a lot of BDSM writers would do good to read this before they begin their next BDSM romance novel. Many BDSM books leave me wanting to punch the Dom in the nose. I did not have this feeling at all with this book.

But I think I was most impressed with the story is it took several people who were curious/interested in BDSM and taught them what they needed to know and thereby doing the same thing for the reader. I also liked the fact that the author, through the characters, made it clear that BDSM is all of what you make of it. And unlike some popular books out there, it is not about coercion, but about mutual respect and trust.

I absolutely loved Double Doms Fantasies! I immediately fell in love with the characters. It has a great story line, and kept me more than entertained! The scenes were smoking hot!!! Love this. Must read for all!!!

About the Author
Stephen Bechtel is a professor emeritus in the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at The Ohio State University. He obtained his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and a two-time winner of the Ohio State University College of Engineering Lumley Research Award. His research interests include advanced materials, including polymer/nanoparticle composites, magnetorheological fluids, ferroic solids, and piezoelectric crystals; industrial polymer processing and fiber manufacturing; and shear and extensional characterization of polymer melts and solutions.

Robert Lowe is a Presidential Fellow and former American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Graduate Teaching Fellow in the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at The Ohio State University. He conducts research in the Computer Applications of Mechanics Laboratory and the Computational Fluid Dynamics Laboratory. He obtained his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio Northern University and his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio State. His research interests include theoretical and computational mechanics, vibrations and elastic waves in structures, finite-deformation continuum electrodynamics, and polymer processing.

Good textbook for undergraduate students in engineering and sciences

I am familiar with some of the publications of the authors and I am glad that they wrote this textbook. The information is clearly presented and some relevant examples are given. In addition to providing the classic theory of continuum mechanics, the authors also comment on more recent work done in this area. Overall, very pleased with the book.

tip of the iceburg

There are not a whole lot of books out there that teach the basics of Unity shaders. This one is pretty good, I literally went through every single exercise in it and here's what I think:
Pros: the book doesn't get all mucked up in trying to teach you common shader syntax, it jumps right into exercises. They are fun too, set up in a Unity game development perspective. I can tell the author is trying to make a complicated subject fun and they are successful. There are some awesome tricks shown here: animating with textures, lighting effects and controlling materials with script.
Cons: This book is too expensive, given the very poor printing quality. Grey scale photos are hard to see and typos abound. I originally bought this book to learn more about Shader programming. Writing shaders in Unity Cg is complicated. This book does have you writing Cg but does a lot of hand-wavey explanations of what you are writing. It's more a recipe, you copy what the author tells you and it works. You never really understand what it means. This not a book for developers looking to be proficient shader writers.

Unlike other software books, this title comes with ready-to-go game scenes, letting you quickly prototype and test shaders in real time. The shaders are compatible with the current Unity 5 lighting system and the code is explained really well.

This is only a log book

Just FYI, This is NOT THE FULL BOOK. It just empty training log forms - which is great if that's what you're looking for. I bought the full book too (highly recommend it).

The full book has a focus on "peaking" your training over several months. The full book contains only a enough log sheets to cover a few of these periods. This book with nothing but logs covers roughly 3 times as many training periods.

I'm still reading it. But it is amazingly well structured. Explains really well the "hows" and "whys" of the training. It covers all your questions as you read it. It makes it extremely comprehensive for total novices.
Undoubtly a helpful tool when you have no idea of what to do to improve your level of climbing.
Ill update as I start training with it

About the Author
Ajay S Gaur is an Associate�Professor of Strategic Management and International Business in the Department of Management and Global Business at Rutgers Business School- Newark and New Brunswick since 2009. Prior to this, he was an Assistant professor at the Old Dominion University, VA (2007-2009) and a Research Fellow at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), New Delhi, India (2000-2003).�He had obtained a PhD in Business Policy and Strategy from NUS Business School under the supervision of Prof Andrew Delios (2003-2007). Prior to that, he obtained another PhD in Management from the Department of Management Studies at Indian School of Mines (ISM)(2000-2003), while working as a Research Fellow at IIFT. He also obtained an MBA from IIFT (1998-2000) and a B. Tech. (Mining Engineering) from ISM (1994-1998). ��� His research interests lie at the intersection of strategy and international business. Currently, he is working on understanding the strategic adaptation of emerging economy firms during institutional transition. This line of work focuses on the interplay between internal governance structure and external governance environment and its effect on firm strategies and performance. He has also worked on issues related to institutional distance between different governance environments, MNCs' ownership strategies, staffing strategies and entry mode choice in international investments. Empirically, he had examined firms based in Australia, China, Germany, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, UK and USA.

Sanjaya Singh Gaur is an Associate Professor of Sales and Marketing at Auckland University of Technology. His experience in academia spans over two decades and includes research, consulting, teaching and training. He has taught and conducted research at BITS Pilani, ISM Dhanbad, SPJIMR Mumbai & IIT Bombay in India, the University of Hoseo and SIT University in South Korea, Link�ping University in Sweden, Westphalian Wilhelms University of Muenster in Germany and Stepehen M. Ross School of Business, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in USA. Dr Gaur has also been consultant to several multinational companies including GlaxoSmithKline, AMO, Johnson & Johnson, HSBC, Ranbaxy Laboratories, RFCL, Geologistics India, KMPL, SGS and Godrej & Boyce. He has published books titled “Board Characteristics and Firm Performance: Evidence from New Zealand”, "Statistical Methods for Practice and Research – A Guide to Data Analysis Using SPSS" and "Event Marketing and Management". Some of his research has appeared in journals such as Journal of Management Studies, European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Business Research, The International Review of Retail, Distribution and Consumer Research, Managing Service Quality, Journal of Services Research, The Marketing Review, Asia Pacific Journal of Marketing and Logistics and Asian Journal of Marketing among others.

A nit's best eye opener

I've wanted this book since its release but never got round to adding it to my poker library, so when I saw it available on Amazon for less than $50 I decided to buy it. Having previously read (and thoroughly enjoyed) The Poker Blueprint, I was expecting high quality content in this book and was not let down. Tri's writing style is clear, concise and made some of the trickier concepts easier to digest. I love that the NL Workbook contains theory as well as plenty of examples to put said theory in practice - which in my opinion is what makes a "good poker book" a "great poker book".

A little background information about my game:
I play SSNL 6 max online (super nit style) and as a result regularly find myself in spots against some of the better regulars where I tend to get confused/uncomfortable/a big brainfreeze, which resulted in me either hero calling without giving much consideration to their ranges, or being too weak tight in spots where an aggresive line should have been taken. A classic example is being afraid to play the optimal way "because I have been called/raised before in a similar situation" (most likely because I either bet or raised in the wrong spot/vs the wrong opponent)

After reading the book initially I spewed a little because I wasn't applying the concepts correctly. However as I read it a few more times, I gradually began to discover where I should be applying selective aggression, and where I should strongly consider folding (even though my instant reaction may have been to snap call).

My game is far from what I would call great, as I still make mistakes and get confused, but those situations seem to appear less often now I'm slowly moving away from the "I play my 2 cards" robotic button clicking approach, and am instead thinking more about the opponent's range as well as what they're likely to do with it. Now when I make a play, I ask myself why in my head and only go ahead if there's good reason to do so.

Having said the above, if you're not willing to put in the work, no book will make you a winning player. But if you dedicate some time to improving your game armed with the information in this book, you will get there eventually.

too hard to read on kindle

The NL workbook was offered as a kindle download; but it was too hard to read. the images of the card holdings could not be enlarged. I haven't tried using a magnifying glass, but in any case, I am disappointed that the fact that no one took the time to notice or resolve this. And, I will have to be cautious with future downloads of other books I intend to read on my kindle.

The tables are getting tougher...

Review for Daily Variance's Exploiting Regulars... Put it in your tank.

If you want greater insight into the modern view of poker, with a few gem-insights along the way, buy a book like this. Books like these will elevate you from "dangerous" to "fearless." You will be more able to make the correct play and be less concerned about how the cards may fall.

I play NLHE at a wide variety of levels (200NL-5000NL) both online and in live executive games that run very, very deep (300-500BBs). I regularly battle against 18-table rake-backing TAGs (many who have 2-3 million hands under their belts; but they still have huge holes in their games that this book illuminates), wealthy maniacs, live fish, as well as bracelet-winning "stars" and "red" pros looking to take out some well-healed execs over a bottle of scotch. I am often not the best or most experienced player at the table, but I usually find a way to survive. Well, I do better when I am folding every now and then ... As much varied poker experiences as I have, however, I am always looking for guidance in "putting it all together." And that is why I come to Daily Variance's publications; they put it together for me. They synthesize and organize what I already know and tell me things that I don't know or don't fully appreciate. I am a member of several coaching sites, I have read many of the e-books out there, and, each time Daily Variance puts out a new book, I still love having these at my bedside table... Tri's books always find a way of presenting absurdly common situations that I discover that I am yet to fully tank on.

If you have not mastered manipulating hand ranges and hand combinatorics, then these books are a must read. If you are good with such things, these books are still worthwhile, since they are insight into how another player/coach thinks about the game and they offer loads of hands to think through with the author (who will think about the hands in a way far more advanced than the "classic" poker books do).

Many people on the forums have questioned the value of paying hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars for a poker book. But, I'd be willing to bet that you make at least one very large poker decision better next time you play if you study these books. One large pot won instead of lost means that even a $1K book starts paying for itself. I won a $2k+ pot that I would have otherwise lost if it weren't for having just read one of Tri's books...
