When I first heard about Kamran's new book, OCM practical guide, I said wow, because I was thinking on the same line a few years back, but, dropped the idea due to several factors, including the fact that the time and efforts required on this book.When he approached me to be one of the technical reviewers, I have accepted the deal straightaway without having a second thought. I am really honored to be part of this wonderful book which unfold the knowledge and help OCM aspirants to get what they dream in their lives. I remember the debates at various places and at several Oracle forums where people discussed about the necessity and advantages of being Oracle certified professional. There were so many discussions and debates whether being certified professional will really add any value to one's career. Anyways, this is not the platform to discuss such things , however, in my own perspective, with real experience and having certification surely boosts the career and gives more chances to advance in the career. Since most commercially effective antifoams are oil based, a chapter is devoted to the entry and spreading behavior of oils and the role of thin film forces in determining that behavior. The book reviews the mode of action of antifoams, including theories of antifoam mechanisms and the role of bridging foam films by particles and oil drops. It also addresses issues related to the effect of antifoam concentration on foam formation by air entrainment and the process of deactivation of mixed oil–particle antifoams during dispersal and foam generation.

For applications where chemical antifoam use is unacceptable, the text examines mechanical means of defoaming, such as the use of rotary devices and ultrasound. The final chapters consider the application of defoaming in radically different contexts including waterborne latex paints and varnishes, machine washing of textiles, gas–oil separation in crude oil production, and cardiopulmonary bypass surgery. Focusing on the basic science of defoaming, this book presents a balanced view, which also addresses the challenges that may arise for these specific defoaming applications.

About the Author

After working for Unilever Research for almost thirty years at Port Sunlight and for a short time at Bangalore, Peter Garrett retired, acquiring visiting professorships at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom and briefly at Rice University, Houston, Texas. He has worked on various aspects of interfacial science in a career lasting 40 years. These included the equilibrium and dynamic adsorption behavior of surfactant solutions, solubilization in microemulsions, kinetics of surfactant dissolution and mesophase growth, and of course both the basic science of defoaming and its application especially in the detergents industry.

Professor Garrett is author or coauthor of more than 30 journal articles and is named as inventor on 14 patents, the majority of which concerned the application of antifoam technology. He is also editor of the book Defoaming, Theory and Applications published in 1993. A member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, he received his Ph.D. from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom in 1971.

Prior to the Ash-Tree Press edition in 1998, these 'rare and curious' tales last appeared in print in 1947, and readers can now once more share and enjoy the stories of Hellier, Vesey, Lutyens, Otway, Ponting, Denison, and all the others who shared the hospitality of Saunderson.

Margery Lawrence's narrative style will transport the reader to the comfortable, club-style atmosphere of a dining club of the 1920s. Her stories entertain, chill, even horrify—for here are twelve strange tales, undeservedly neglected tales, that deserve their place alongside the very best that the genre has to offer.

Great book!

It is a great book for those who want to get an introduction on what it is McKinsey & Co. The book describe Marvin Bower's work throughout his life to build the greatest consulting firm in the world. The values, ethics and way of thinking for a firm that was thought to last for ever as a leader in the world. Great book.

A Fascinating, Uplifting and Very Useful Book

This is a truly outstanding book. It is very well-written and thoroughly presents the principles and experiences that made Marvin Bower one of the giants of management consulting. Even with 30 years experience in management consulting, I learned a great deal about client relationships and other aspects of consulting. Marvin Bower was truly a remarkable leader. For skills and ethics in management consulting, he rates at the top.
The only negative about the book is that it's not balanced. No one is perfect- not even Mr. Bower or McKinsey- as the author might have you believe. And I don't think Mr. Bower was quite the non-autocratic and non-hierarchical leader as the author and others have asserted. Firing a partner because he was doing work for one client that didn't deal with "major problems;" firing an associate and ordering him to leave the firm and building in 30 minutes for a lapse in judgement (albeit a significant one); and putting the fear of God in associates if they were seen having a social rather than a business lunch or if they wore argyle socks sounds pretty autocratic to me. Even if he encouraged dissent in staff discussions.
Also, I don't agree that Mr. Bower was the founder of professional management consulting. I believe Ed Booz of Booz, Allen and Hamilton was. Of course, as a former Booz Allen partner, I may be biased.
Notwithstanding the above criticisms, this is one of the best books I've ever read.

Anderson, Henri Cazelles, David Noel Freedman, Shemaryahu Talmon, and Gerhard Wallis.

The intention of the writers is to concentrate on meaning, starting from the more general, everyday senses and building to an understanding of theologically significant concepts. To avoid artificially restricting the focus of the articles, TDOT considers under each keyword the larger groups of words that are related linguistically or semantically. The lexical work includes detailed surveys of a word’s occurrences, not only in biblical material but also in other ancient Near Eastern writings. Sumerian, Akkadian, Egyptian, Ethiopic, Ugaritic, and Northwest Semitic sources are surveyed, among others, as well as the Qumran texts and the Septuagint; and in cultures where no cognate word exists, the authors often consider cognate ideas.

TDOT’s emphasis, though, is on Hebrew terminology and on biblical usage. The contributors employ philology as well as form-critical and traditio-historical methods, with the aim of understanding the religious statements in the Old Testament. Extensive bibliographical information adds to the value of this reference work.

This English edition attempts to serve the needs of Old Testament students without the linguistic background of more advanced scholars; it does so, however, without sacrificing the needs of the latter. Ancient scripts (Hebrew, Greek, etc.) are regularly transliterated in a readable way, and meanings of foreign words are given in many cases where the meanings might be obvious to advanced scholars. Where the Hebrew text versification differs from that of English Bibles, the English verse appears in parentheses. Such features will help all earnest students of the Bible to avail themselves of the manifold theological insights contained in this monumental work.

The Hebrew vocabulary of the Old Testament

The editor says the the purpose of this dictionary is to analyze the religious statements of the Old Testament with the aid of all accessible resources and the present them in their peculiarity, in order to shed as much light as possible on the connections of the content of Old Testament though in a given text, tradition, or institution. To accomplish this goal 39 international Old Testament scholars have written articles on 53 Hebrew words found in the Old Testament, ranging from the word for "father" to that for "alone." There are articles on "light, "man," "God," "land," among others. While the words are arranged according to their Hebrew form, all Hebrew words are transliterated. This is the first of several volumes translated from the German original.

TDOT Vol 2

I'm not a biblical scholar and I can't read Hebrew, but I have the TWOT in book form as well as in the Online Bible. The TWOT references the correct page where words are found in the TDOT and I can then track words. After looking at the first 3 volumes and working some words, I can see how the TDOT is a great counterpart to the TDNT. I recommend it for anyone wanting to learn more about the Old Testament and the Hebrew language.

Kenneth S. Saladin is a full professor at Georgia College and State University. He obtained his B.S. degree in Zoology from Michigan State University and his Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Florida State University. He has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses for over twenty years.

Professor's perspective

Saladin is a pretty good anatomy and physiology text but it contains a number of errors in fact in some areas (e.g., renal), is not well balanced in some areas (e.g., cardiovascular and gastrointestinal) and the pictures are often incorrect (e.g., illustrating epithelial cells as a cube). As a physiologist it appears to me that the physiology is weaker than the anatomy. Many A&P texts contain the same errors, which suggests that these works are not entirely original. I've concluded that I need separate anatomy and physiology texts for my A&P course so that the students will have the benefit of true expertise in each subject area.

Well Written...Easy to Follow...Superb Textbook

I am in college, currently taking my 2nd term of Anatomy and Physiology as a pre-requisite for nursing school. This textbook has been fundamental to my understanding of this course, both for this term and last term (and I plan to use it next term, as well).

The clincher is that this is not the required text we are using for my class. A friend just happened to give me this Saladin book when she heard I was taking A&P and so I am using it as a companion text. Little did I know how much I would come to rely on this book; I really feel lucky that it was given to me.

The text my school uses is Martini's Fundamentals of Anatomy Physiology, which, to be fair, is also a very good text book. But there is something about the way Saladin writes and the way he organizes his thoughts about the subject matter that makes it so much easier for me to understand.Often, I will read my required textbook and be totally lost, not "getting it." This is especially true when I am researching information to answer essay questions for my exams. Then, I will read the same topic in Saladin's book and a light bulb will go off -- it will finally all make sense. I've even thought about writing a personal letter to the author to express my gratitude.

I highly recommend this textbook to anyone who wants a clear and easy to understand approach to anatomy & physiology. I feel Anatomy & Physiology: The Unity of Form and Function, by Kenneth S. Saladin, has been essential to my comprehension of anatomy & physiology; I'm not exaggerating when I say that being able to count on this book has helped me to keep making A's in this class!

Be Careful With This Edition

The first half of the text is excellent; graphics and reader-friendly verbiage are well done. Though I am obligated to say Saladin's treatment of the autonomic system needs extensive supplementation if your future academic program includes a course in Pharamacology.

The second half (roughly equating to second semester) is a disaster. I hope the next edition makes the significant repairs needed, especially with endocrine physiology.
